Synopsis

An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life--until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter read...and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love--and face the hardest decision of his life.

My Thoughts:

Holter did an amazing job narrating this book. I was hooked from the beginning and by CD 3 I was fully attached to the story and the characters within it.

It's not just a story about a boy and a girl. It was more of a story about a boy discovering love, accepting his father for who he is, the loss of love, death and growing up. It was a heartbreaking listen and I found myself tearing up at times. Heck I found myself tearing up on a few occasions.

This is not a happy go lucky kind of book. If that's what your looking to listen too you might want to find something else. But if you're looking for a sweet, heartwarming, heartbreaking kind of book this is definitely it.

I'm off to chose a light hearted audiobook now.

I just watched The Notebook for the umpteenth time last night & it was sad, but great! Sparks' books are the best!
