Book Summary

As 16-year-old Grace recovers from tragedy, her science class is chosen by Agent Sweeney at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to help with research on the new "Red Wolf Reintroduction Program".

While she’s excited about helping with the conservation of the endangered wolves, Grace knows this means being outdoors in the worst winter recorded, in a place she no longer feels comfortable. It also means working closely with Wyn (her ex) and his annoying girlfriend (Skyler), a girl whose idea of getting close to nature is picking silk plants and growing fake plants.

After a couple of wolves show up dead, Grace almost quits. However, when a fellow project team member goes missing, Grace continues the assignment under a renewed suspicion that someone might be sabotaging the conservation program. She quietly begins to hunt for clues.

Little does she know, she is being hunted too.

Books I am reading this week:

Wintergirls - Laurie Halse Anderson Audiobook (another book that is totally Sheila's fault. I bought and read this when it first came out but thanks to Sheila's review of the audiobook, my husband and I are listening to it. Very slowly however. It has become what we listen to when we head to camp and head home.

Beautiful Disaster - A Review

Beautiful Disaster - Jamie McGuire (own)

Synopsis:

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My Thoughts:
So I have totally mixed feelings about this book. But let me say I really liked it. I've seen a few reviews where people either hated it or loved it. I'm in the middle.
The story was fantastic. Bad boy, good girl. Perfect for each other and yet so very wrong. The characters drove me insane. I literally wanted to kick the you know what out of both of them for almost the entire book. Abby is probably the worst of the two. You get the feeling that the book wants you to think Travis is, but at least with Travis you know what his issues are. Abby, she just hides and sneaks hers around. These are two seriously dysfunctional characters. So I can understand where some of the negative reviews come from.
But yet I really, really enjoyed the book. I can't for the life of me point a finger to any one thing that kept me going but maybe I'm just a sap and found myself pulling for the them even if I think they both need some therapy.
So would I recommend? Yep. Definitely. But I'm recommending with a warning. You will at one point or another want to scream in frustration.
